Dr. Himashi Hapangama is one of only seven Embryologists in Sri Lanka with experience in the field of Reproductive Medicine and Genetics. After completing double Masters (MSc and Med. Sci –Medical Genetics) from the University of Glasgow she joined Ninewells hospitals and later Lanka Hospitals as an Embryologist, in-charge of both Embryology and Andrology laboratories. Being skilled and experienced in performing highly specialized embryology techniques and diagnosing of subfertility conditions and counselling patients through treatment, Dr. Hapangama has helped to fulfill over 400 dreams of parenthood into reality. As the only Embryologist in the country to be a qualified Geneticists as well, she was one of the key persons in introducing and implementing Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT) at the hospital. She is experienced in performing embryo biopsy and loading for PGT, diagnosis and identification of mutations in genetic diseases and counseling patients through PGT. Apart from being a member of Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction (ASPIRE), of Association of Clinical Embryologists UK and of Merck Foundation Alumni – Fertility, she has the honor of being one of the first Embryologists in the country to present at British Fertility Conference.
